Robstown crash driver charges, Ivan Dario Puga-Moreno arrested.

Authorities have made an arrest in connection with the fatal crash in Robstown overnight Wednesday that claimed the lives of six undocumented immigrants.

According to U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick, a 23-year-old Mexican national was arrested and charged with unlawful transportation of the undocumented immigrants resulting in death.

Ivan Dario Puga-Moreno, of Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, was arrested Thursday in Houston. He is expected to go before a magistrate judge there at 10 a.m. Monday.

It was early Wednesday morning when authorities found a crashed SUV in a Robstown ditch following a chase with authorities earlier in the night. Six people were found dead at the scene, and nine more required hospitalization.

Authorities said an investigation revealed that Puga-Moreno was the driver of the SUV and was attempting to smuggle 18 undocumented immigrants from South Texas to Houston. He allegedly fled the scene after the crash. Authorities said he had the assistance of a brush guide from his hometown in Mexico.

If convicted, Puga-Moreno could face the death penalty.
