MOSCOW — President Vladimir Putin has praised late Russian author Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn as a “true and actual patriot” after unveiling a statue honoring the Nobel Prize-winning creator in central Moscow.
Talking on the unveiling ceremony marking the centenary of Solzhenitsyn’s start, Putin mentioned on December 11 that even in exile, the creator “didn’t permit anybody to speak dismissively and badly about his motherland.”
“He stood up in opposition to any expression of Russophobia,” mentioned Putin, a former KGB officer.
